Norman Barnett
The Firm was established by Norman Barnett in 1977. Norman had been a Partner in a Barking Firm before taking the brave decision to set up on his own. He acquired premises at 391 Barking Road.

In those days Newham East magistrates used to sit across the road at the Town Hall. Within 3 months of the start of the Firm the Court moved to Great Eastern Road in Stratford.

Despite this set back the Firm went from strength to strength.

Norman had a reputation as an outstanding advocate and very quickly the Firm became well established in the local courts.

Norman retired from the Partnership in 2000 but still keeps in touch with the Firm and we are very grateful to him for establishing the practice.

Paul Rosen
In 1978 Paul Rosen joined the Firm as a Partner and set up our Conveyancing practice. Paul is a formidable Conveyancer and it was not long before the Conveyancing practice began to expand under his leadership. We are proud to say we now have one of the busiest Conveyancing practices in East London, dealing with properties throughout England and Wales. Paul became Senior Partner on Norman’s retirement in 2000.

Nick Heslop.
In 1982 Nick Heslop joined the Firm as a criminal lawyer. In those days and for the next few years he was in the Magistrates court most mornings and afternoons representing clients in criminal matters. In 1985 Nick Heslop became a Partner. He has expanded the litigious areas of the practice and is now Senior Litigation Partner. His particular area of expertise is in family law, child care and mental health.

The Firm
In 1986, we acquired the premises at Keppel Road as we had out-grown 391 Barking Road. In 1997 we moved into the premises at 397 Barking Road, whilst retaining the Keppel road office.

During the last few years, we have concentrated on streamlining the business and focusing on those areas where we have expertise. In particular, we have expanded the Conveyancing and Family Law Departments.

On 1 st July 2006, we were very pleased to invite Chris Holt and Imran Sher to join the Partnership.

We have a number of young lawyers in the Firm and we want to harness their youth and energy together with the experience of the older lawyers so as to continue the success of the Firm and to maintain our high standards.

We all look forward to the firm’s continued development in the future.
